, so I didn't travel around the city on my own much, so I really have less to say about Venice.Here's an example of the crumbling stucco you see on so many houses in the back canals. It's so expensive to live in Venice that, if people live in inherited places, they often cannot afford the best upkeep of the exteriors.

Another view of the Grand Canal, with Santa Maria della Salute toward the background on the right. The Salute (health) church was built after the people prayed to Mary to stop the plague in the 1600's. The plague subsided, so they built her the church.
